From Peckham to Shanghai: Dirty’s Daniel Brereton completes Las Aves girl gang video trilogy
Dirty director Daniel Brereton takes us to the streets of Shanghai to complete the Las Aves girl gang-themed music video trilogy.
Daniel has directed the 2nd and 3rd in the set, with the first video focussing on a group of skater girls in LA (directed by Focus Creepers). If Daniels’ first video for the band – N.E.M. – sees a hairdressing girl gang take us through the streets of South London, Die In Shanghai takes us to the bright lights of China’s most populous city where we follow an all-female, all-in- pink gang of acrobatic street performers. Shot by Dylan Doyle,‘Die in Shanghai’ sees the city as a diverse and vibrant stage for the girls to perform.
“The band were interested in featuring a gang from Shanghai, based on the songs title and lyrics, and so we did some fairly extensive research into our options over there. We came across a group of acrobats, who perform in the city regularly, doing an amazing variety of acts.
My idea was to take their act onto the streets of Shanghai, filming them in strange and beautiful locations performing acrobatics. I loved the contrast of these small but powerful females contorting in front giant skyscrapers and down dead end alleys. It was great for me to get this opportunity to shoot in China and I am very thankful to the band.”
